REQUEST TRIP
We built the service we couldn't find. A transport company that treats elderly passengers as people, not logistics problems.
In 2017, one of our founding team members needed to arrange transport for her 81-year-old father travelling from Winnipeg to a specialist clinic in Vancouver. He used a walker, moved slowly through crowded spaces, and had never flown without a family member at his side.
The options available were: standard taxi or rideshare (no mobility assistance, no waiting, no escort), paratransit (only within the city, not intercity), or private medical transport (thousands of dollars, only for acute emergencies). None of them fit.
After making the journey work through a patchwork of arrangements — a sympathetic cab driver, a helpful airline staff member, a cousin who drove four hours to meet him at arrivals — we started asking why this was so difficult. The answer: there was no service built specifically for this situation.
Wybicie launched in 2018 to fill that gap. The name itself is a nod to the Polish word for departure — an acknowledgement that leaving somewhere safely is the first step of every journey.
We schedule more time than we need. Journeys with elderly passengers have natural pauses — we build those in rather than creating pressure around them.
We message the designated family contact at departure, midpoint, and arrival. Not because we're required to — because it's what removes anxiety from both sides of the journey.
The same escort who picks up your family member delivers them to their destination. We don't hand off passengers between contractors or drivers at route changes.
Every Wybicie escort completes a structured induction programme before their first independent journey. This includes: senior mobility assistance certification, basic first aid and emergency response training, dementia awareness and communication techniques, and a minimum of four supervised journeys with a senior escort.
Backgrounds vary — some came from care home work, others from nursing, others from customer-facing roles in aviation. What they have in common is patience, attentiveness, and the ability to make a nervous traveller feel genuinely looked after.
Escorts do not rotate between passengers without notice. We maintain a small, stable team so that repeat clients often travel with someone they recognise.
