// ACCESSIBILITY — REF. ACC-01

Built for how people actually move

Accessibility at Wybicie is not a checklist. It is how every vehicle is configured, how every escort is trained, and how every journey is planned from the first call.

Mobility support

Our accessible vans are equipped with a hydraulic side-entry ramp rated to 350 kg, four-point floor anchor system for manual and power wheelchairs, and 2.1 m of interior headroom so passengers remain seated upright for the entire journey.

For passengers who use a walker or cane but do not require a ramp, our high-clearance sedans have widened door openings, inward-facing grab handles at door height, and raised seat cushions to minimise bending. Getting in and out should not feel like an obstacle.

Escorts are trained in safe transfer techniques — from wheelchair to vehicle seat if preferred, and back again — and will never rush a transfer or apply pressure to move faster than the passenger is comfortable with.

Dementia and cognitive care

A significant proportion of our passengers are living with dementia or other forms of cognitive change. Our escorts receive specific training in dementia-aware communication — how to give clear, calm instructions, how to manage confusion without causing distress, and how to respond when a passenger becomes unsettled during a journey.

Practically, this means: we never raise our voice or show impatience. We confirm the destination and the reason for the journey repeatedly if needed, in plain language. We do not introduce unnecessary changes mid-journey. We carry a printed profile card for each passenger with cognitive needs, provided by the family, so the escort always knows the passenger's preferred name, key phrases that help them feel calm, and what to avoid.

Families should inform us of cognitive needs at the time of booking. This information is kept confidential and shared only with the assigned escort.

Medical equipment and medication

Our escorts are trained in first aid to the standard required by Transport Canada. They can respond to common medical events (falls, breathing difficulty, hypoglycaemia) and know when and how to contact emergency services if needed.

We do not administer medication. However, if a passenger has a scheduled medication time during a journey, the escort will remind them and provide any assistance with packaging (opening blister packs, pouring water) that the passenger cannot manage independently.

All vehicles carry a first aid kit, an AED defibrillator, and an emergency information card for each passenger on board. Emergency contacts are verified with the family before every journey.

For passengers travelling with large or specialised medical equipment, contact us before booking so we can confirm the appropriate vehicle and any special loading arrangements.
